From savoring pintxos in San Sebastián to reconnecting with her family roots in Asturias, the CNN Original Series Eva Longoria: Searching for Spain is more than a culinary tour. The show is an exploration of cultural heritage and the people and stories that make each Spanish region unique. During her press run in New York, we sat down with Eva Longoria to talk about her ancestral homeland and her definition of a perfect day in Spain. Q: If you could spend one perfect day in Spain, what would it look like? Paint a picture for our readers. My perfect day in Spain involves waking up, playing paddle tennis (because that's a big thing in Spain) and then walking to lunch at a chiringuito (a small bar) on a beach in Marbella. At a chiringuito, I typically order fresh fish with a glass of white wine and enjoy a long lunch well into the evening. Once I'm back home, I take a siesta and then get ready for dinner where there's txuleton (steak), croquetas and a beautiful glass of tempranillo (red wine). To end it, I love to have a sobre masa, where you just sit around and talk for hours. That, to me, is a perfect day in Spain.
Q: Over the years, you've had the opportunity to vacation and produce shows in Spain. What made the journey this time around unique for you? If anybody wants to travel, eat, and drink well, you should do it with CNN because they do the most amazing research. The production team goes into these regions before I arrive, and they find the most special stories to tell — from Michelin-star chefs to the woman selling a meal on the corner of a street that's been famous for a long time. In the show, we represent all types of people and cuisines, and being able to tell their stories is an honor. Q: How would you describe each Spanish region you visited in one word and why? Madrid is iconic. Andalusia? Historic. The Basque region — San Sebastian to be exact — is modern and innovative. Galicia is historic. Asturias is full of heritage because that's where my ancestors are from. Marbella is home, because that's where I live. |
