| 🏈 How news became Coy Wire's new game By Kimberly Richardson | CNN anchor and correspondent Coy Wire | After playing nine seasons in the National Football League, CNN anchor and correspondent Coy Wire went through a tough time. His dream had just come to an end. "I felt like an empty shell of myself — like a major part of my identity had been stripped away," Wire explained. "I didn't know what I was going to do." But then the former professional athlete got the opportunity to work at a sports network as a football analyst. From breaking down games to telling stories about players who were chasing their dreams, it was in that moment where Wire realized that news could be his new game. Now at CNN, the award-winning journalist uses his experiences, insight and contacts every day to inspire, uplift and unite those around him. This week, we caught up with Wire to talk about hosting CNN 10, a daily news program for students where the big stories of the day are explained in 10 minutes. | |

| CNN 10 just kicked off a new season. What excites you most? The viewers and my teammates, of course! I love surrounding myself with people who are hungry for knowledge and information — people who aim to be the best versions of themselves. I've missed my CNN 10 family over the summer break, the most awesome viewers on the planet, and our small but mighty team of producers and editors who work hard to make our show great. I'm also excited about a few new things we have up our sleeves for this season. How did covering sports help prepare you to host CNN 10? When I started my news career at CNN in 2015, I quickly realized that being a good news anchor requires many of the same attributes it takes to be a good athlete and teammate. You have to work hard to learn and grow every single day. You have to be disciplined — laser-focused on your responsibilities, making sacrifices to be the best you can be. And last but not least, you have to be a good teammate who is open to understanding the different viewpoints of those around you, whether they're in your locker room, newsroom or in the audience. 🍎 New episodes of CNN 10 are released every night Sunday through Thursday — just in time for the following school day. Describe a day in the life of someone who works on this show designed for students. To put it simply: nonstop action. There are 1,440 minutes in a day, and sometimes it feels like we're digging in, studying, researching or writing for 1,430 of them. We break down complicated news stories with easy-to-understand explanations. It's no small task trying to represent multiple sides of a story equally, without opinion or slant, and finding a way to have some fun, too — but that's exactly what we do. |

| CNN 10 serves a growing audience interested in compact on-demand news broadcasts. | CNN 10 is designed for explanation seekers on the go or for those in the classroom. What is one thing you hope students take away from the show? That there are good people in this world. Look no further than our interviews, our CNN Heroes and Call to Earth features. I hope our viewers realize that, together, we can make a great team in this game of life. This world is full of many different people, with many different perspectives, but if we respect one another we'll enjoy our shared experiences so much more. Show love and respect, keep shining bright, and we will make this world a better place. Tell us about some of your favorite stories you have worked on for the show. We cover so many stories, but my favorites are those that highlight someone making this world a better place — people I like to call Difference Makers. I also like being on assignment out in the field, because I've had the opportunity to meet some of our viewers and they always lift my spirit. You have such a positive outlook, which is not always easy to maintain in news. How do you manage stress and decompress? Life isn't easy, and most people have to work hard to stay positive, including me! It's true, sometimes it's really tough covering stories that can be sad or upsetting, but I always try to find something positive to take away — a lesson to be learned. Growing up, any time adversity struck, my dad said, "Son, this will probably end up being one of the best things that has ever happened to you." I hated hearing it at the time, but he was always right. Our tough times can make us tougher. We can develop strength through our struggles. Failure and adversity can be our greatest teachers. Remembering that helps me to stay positive, being sure to focus on the positive in any situation whenever possible. | |
